Knowing how to measure a horse rug properly is not a dark art or a science, though some would have you believe it was.
For a perfect fit with a fully made to measure horse rug, measure all of the points indicated on this diagram. When you pass them to your rug maker, make sure you measure all of them using the same standard (either inches or centimeters).
Tghis is exactly the same as measuring a horse ... just smaller!
Horse rugs that you can buy off the shelf (including ours) will have a simple 'length' measurement such as 6'6" (6 feet and 6 inches) or 155cm (155 centimeters). Which style of measurement will largely depend where you are from.
In the UK, USA, Australasia and Africa, the traditional measurement will be expressed in feet and inches and will be the horse or pony measurement '1' from the centre of the chest to the tail in the diagram above.
However, in continental Europe, the rug size is likely to be expressed in centimeters and will be the back measurement from wither to tail as shown as number '2' above.
